Once regular checks of all portable appliances have been completed, a comprehensive record system must be kept! This is where WinPATSTM software makes the task easy! WinPATSTM is a Windows-based portable appliance testing software package designed for desktop PCs and laptops. WinPATSTM CE is also available for use with Pocket PCs. These software packages are to be used in conjunction with a PAT tester, which physically tests the appliance, while WinPATSTM records the data safely and effortlessly! It is our recommendation that the portable appliance tester model/s; TnT, TnT-el or TnT+ are used in conjunction with WinPATSTM Lite as this software has been designed specifically for use with these PAT testers. Please go to www.wavecom.com.au for details of your nearest retailer or contact WinPATSTM Technical Support. This software in itself in no way poses a risk to the operator's safety. ! When using any electrical appliance SAFETY must always be observed. Testing appliances is no exception and in fact MORE care must be taken to ensure personal safety is met. Although the TnT range of appliance testing products has been designed to meet stringent requirements, no person can be completely protected against the consequences of the incorrect use of an electrical device. We advise that appliance testing should be conducted by a competent and suitably trained person. For maximum safety, always ensure that the following advice is followed: · · · · · · The equipment being tested is in good working order. All user instructions are followed. Double check power supply connections (LEDs) to the TnT appliance tester. Always use specified fuses and protection devices. Do not use leads that require repair or are damaged. If you are unsure, call a Licensed Engineer/Electrician. Page 6 "The Home of Innovative Instrument & Software Technology" www.wavecom.com.au Chapter 1 Important Information Competent Person ! Regulations require that a `Competent Person' such as a Licensed Electrician be employed to perform all or any of the electrical tests that are mentioned in this operator's manual. This is to ensure that all devices under test are inspected, tested and tagged safely and correctly. A person competent to undertake Inspection and Testing of electrical equipment must therefore have: 1. Knowledge and practical experience of electricity and its hazards. 2. A clear understanding of precautions to avoid danger. 3. The ability to recognise, at all times, whether it is safe for work to continue or not. 4. The ability to carry out visual examinations of electrical equipment. 5. The ability to distinguish between electrical equipment that is double insulated and equipment that is earthed as well as being able to identify the appropriate test for each type. 6. The competency to safely carry out the Earthing Continuity, Insulation Resistance or Leakage Test and RCD tests on electrical equipment safely. 7. The knowledge of how to use the relevant testing instruments, interpret and record the results for compliance with the Standard/Workplace requirements. 8. The knowledge to be able to correctly recommend the frequency of testing required. Due to the potential hazards of electrical testing all care must be taken.
