4.1 Hardtop operation through interior hardtop switch
Lowering and raising of the hardtop can be achieved through operating the hardtop switch in upward (lower) or downward direction (raise) and keep it in that position until the pilot light in the switch comes on. From that moment onwards the RoofControlSLK will take over and the switch can be released.
4.2 Programming of the behavior of the side windows
The behavior of the side windows after finalized hardtop operation is programmable. The settings for "lower" status or "raise" status are independently programmable. Setting a new configuration can be achieved by pressing the hardtop switch downwards 3 times within 1,5 seconds. Each of such repetitive operation will shift to the next preset as given in the list beneath the image. There are 4 presets:

· · · ·
Windows down, with raised or lowered hardtop ( a single audible signal is given to confirm this setting ) Windows down with lowered hardtop, windows up with raised hardtop ( a double audible signal is given to confirm this setting) Windows up with lowered hardtop, windows down with raised hardtop ( a triple audible signal is given to confirm this setting) Windows up with lowered & raised hardtop ( a quadruple audible signal is given to confirm this setting)
Please keep in mind to press the hardtop switch within the 1,5 second time limit in order to shift to the next setting. Attention! The audible signal is replaced by flashing of the pilot light inside the hardtopswitch in the "light" version !
If you want the pilot light to indicate settings in the "noChirp" version, please connect the red wire of the alarm horn connector to the green/red wire at pin 68 of the MCU ! 4.3 Programming of the operating speed limit
A new speed limit can be set by operating the hardtop switch 3 times in succession in upward direction ("lower" ) during driving. The following must be taken in consideration:
· · · ·
If the programming of the speed limit is done while the car is not moving, the original limit of 8 km/h is set. If the programming of the speed limit is done during driving, and the speed is between 8 km/ h and 80 km/h, the current driving speed is set as operating speed limit. If the programming of the speed limit is done during driving, and the driving speed exceeds 80 km/h, the maximum value of 80 km/h is set as operating speed limit Default factory setting is 60 km/h
Please note that the hardtop-switch must be operated 3 times within the time limit of 1,5 seconds. www.x-t-c.com Page 6
XTC-RoofControlSLK V1.2 If a setting is programmed successfully, an audible signal is given to confirm (Full Version).
4.4 Hardtop operation through original key remote (not for lite version)
In order to open the hardtop while the car is parked, press the "unlock" button of the key remote 3 times within 2,5 seconds. In case of the Chirp-version, every time the buttons of the key remote are pressed, and audible signal is given. (1 time on pressing "unlock" button, two times on pressing "raise" button) The hardtop operation starts automatically. If the doors or trunk are not being opened during the hardtop operation, the central lock system is activated after the hardtop has fully opened. In order to close the hardtop, press the "lock" button on the key remote twice within 2,5 seconds. After the hardtop is closed, the central lock system will be activated.
4.5 Side windows operation through original key remote (not for lite version)
In order to only open the side windows while the car is parked, just press the corresponding key one more time, as mentioned in the paragraph above. That means, four times "unlock" opens the windows, three times "lock" closes the windows.
4.6 Chirp-function through original key remote (only Full Version)
In case of the Chirp-version, every time the buttons of the key remote are pressed, and audible signal is given. (1 time on pressing "unlock" button, two times on pressing "lock" button). Operating the hardtop switch 3 times in succession in upward direction ("lower" ) while ignition is in position ONE, configures the CHIRP-function. If a setting is programmed successfully, an audible signal is given to confirm CHIRP-ON = 5 times or CHIRP-OFF = 2 times.
5 Required tools
To install the RoofControlSLK unit the following tools are required: The pliers from the SLK toolkit for attaching the electrical taps (piggybacks) The miniature screwdriver (included). A small site-cutter to cut the wires 56 and 74 on the controller unit. A knife to strip the isolation from the wires. To open the control unit box, set the lever in the `unlock' position and take off the lid of the box. Here you can see the Main Control Unit N10-3 (further referred to as MCU). The RoofControlSLK unit will be connected to some of the wires coming from the MCU. In addition, two cables have to be cut.
www.x-t-c.com
Page 11
XTC-RoofControlSLK V1.2
To have better access to the cables, it is advised to cut the existing tie rope. It can be replaced with a new one (supplied) at the end of the installation.
www.x-t-c.com
Page 12
XTC-RoofControlSLK V1.2
Once the tie rope is cut, one can easily recognize the sets of cables, bundled for each application. In the picture above you can see the cables for the hardtop.
Check for the green/white cable to pin 74 of the MCU and cut it in such way, that you are able to still strip 5mm of isolation from the cable, and connect the ST16/2 (blue & green).
www.x-t-c.com
Page 13
XTC-RoofControlSLK V1.2
Repeat this for the blue/green cable to pin 56 of the MCU.
Here you can see how the cable should be stripped of its isolation.
www.x-t-c.com
Page 14
XTC-RoofControlSLK V1.2
On both wires coming from the MCU, the connectors ST 16/2 need to be fixed. Please take care to fix the green/white cable on the small side of the connector (see picture above). Use the supplied miniature screwdriver to fasten the small screws on the side of the connectors.
On the remaining wires the green marked ST16/2 connector should be fixed. In order to check the polarity, simply plug the connectors- the original connection should now be replaced. This is useful if at a certain point you would like to remove the RoofControlSLK unit. Just plug the connectors and the modification is cancelled.
www.x-t-c.com
Page 15
XTC-RoofControlSLK V1.2 Now we will proceed fixing the 10-pins, color-coded connection cable of the RoofControlSLK unit. You will need the waterpump pliers from the SLK toolkit. Start with the black wire from the RoofControlSLK unit to the green/red wire to pin 68 of the MCU.
www.x-t-c.com
Page 16
XTC-RoofControlSLK V1.2 With the supplied self-stripping-electrical-taps Scotchlok 558 , in contrary to the taps you see in the pictures, the one wire goes in on top and the other from the bottom. Do not cut any wires here; the tap cuts through the isolation of the wires when closed and creates an electrical contact between the inserted wires.
Proceed with the brown wire from the RoofControlSLK unit and connect it with the brown wire from the MCU to pin 77, and the red wire from the RoofControlSLK unit to the pink/red/black wire from the MCU to pin 58. Again, do not cut any wires.
The orange wire from the RoofControlSLK unit should be fixed to the green/purple wire from pin 29 of the MCU, and the yellow wire from the RoofControlSLK unit to the white/purple wire of the MCU to pin 28. www.x-t-c.com Page 17
XTC-RoofControlSLK V1.2
The white wire of the RoofControlSLK unit should not be connected with the "Lite Version". In case the "Full Version" is being installed, and the alarm function is applied, the white cable from the RoofControlSLK unit should be fixed to the thick blue/brown wire to pin 18 of the MCU. Finally, plug the connectors from the RoofControlSLK unit to the connectors earlier fixed. Blue to blue, green to green (see picture) and the 10-pin connector to the RoofControlSLK unit itself (lip in upper position).
Put the wires and the RoofControlSLK unit in the MCU box, replace the tie rope, and close the MCU box.... READY! www.x-t-c.com Page 18
XTC-RoofControlSLK V1.2
6.2 Additional instructions for the ,,noChirp"-Version
To install the ,,noChirp" version and the ,,full Version" there is another 5-pins connector on the RoofControlSLK unit. This one needs to be fixed to the KFZ-relay (short-cut of the ignition) and the MCU.
The battery MUST be disconnected while working on the fuse-box !!
Unlock the fuse box and take off the lid.
www.x-t-c.com
Page 19
XTC-RoofControlSLK V1.2
Continue to unlock the latches around the frame of the fuse box, and remove the frame. Underneath you'll see two small latches- press them and remove the whole fuse holder.
www.x-t-c.com
Page 20
XTC-RoofControlSLK V1.2 Beneath the fuse holder the main battery connection is now visible. The connection "X4" on the left side is directly connected to the positive connection of the battery. The right connection (X4/18) is ignition position "1" ; in between ignition position "2". On the latter is currently the hardtop control connected.
Before we are going to change-over these connections, first we will fix the cable of the KFZ-relay: unscrew the yellow ST16/2 connector from the long wires to the relay, and work the tinned wireends through the rubber seal in the MCU-box. See picture below.
www.x-t-c.com
Page 21
XTC-RoofControlSLK V1.2
Fix the connector back to the wires (watch polarity), and lead the cable to the fuse box.
Use plenty of tie ropes to fix the cable; please make sure that the cable is kept well away from hot engine parts if the isolation of the wires melts, the positive connection of the battery is in direct contact with the ground! This means fire hazard! www.x-t-c.com Page 22
XTC-RoofControlSLK V1.2
On the picture above you can see how to lead the cable into the fuse-box. Please note that for clarifying purposes, the fuse holder is put back in its place. In practice, this is done in a later stage. Beware: Double check NOW that you have disconnected the battery!!!
Use ratchet and socket 8 to remove the nut of the middle connection completely. www.x-t-c.com Page 23
XTC-RoofControlSLK V1.2 Now remove find the only pink/red cable with only one wire. In some cases, there are more single wired cables, use the one connected to fuse No. 7. In most occasions, this is the one in the lowest position. Take the wire of the connection-bolt and put back the other cables. Secure the nut.
Now remove the nut from the connection on the right side (X4/18) using ratchet and socket 7. Connect the pink/red cable to the connection, as well as the red cable from the relay (marked X4/18) and secure the nut with ratchet and socket 7.
www.x-t-c.com
Page 24
XTC-RoofControlSLK V1.2 Finally, connect the red cable of the relay (marked X4) with the connection X4 by means of ratchet and socket 10, and put the relay in the fuse box (you can use a tie rope to fix it).
Assemble the fuse box, and move to the MCU box.
By means of the Scotchlok 558 self-stripping-electrical-taps, the black wire of the 5-pins connector of the RoofControlSLK unit should be fixed to the black/red wire to pin 57 of the MCU, and the brown wire from the RoofControlSLK unit to the grey/black wire to pin 55 of the MCU.

Page 25
XTC-RoofControlSLK V1.2
Connect the yellow connector of the RoofControlSLK unit to the yellow connector of the relay. Plug the 5-pins connector to the RoofControlSLK unit, hide the unit in the MCU box, replace the lid, reconnect the battery... READY !
6.3 Additional instructions Full Version
In case of the Full Version the 12-volt alarm unit should be connected to the red connector of the RoofControlSLK unit, and the alarm unit fixed in any suitable position by means of the tie ropes... READY!

7 Troubleshooting
In case the unit is mal-functioning, please open the unit by using a Phillips screwdriver to remove the screws, locate the control LED's in the middle of the circuit board, and run the test below. (Best to do this with two persons. The ignition should be in the 2nd position).
The LED on the left side should go on whenever the pilot light in the hardtop-switch lights up. The 2nd LED from left side should go on whenever the hardtop-switch is pushed in the "raise" position. The 3rd LED from left side should go on whenever the hardtop-switch is pushed in the "lower" position. The 4th LED from left side indicates the speed-pulse; this can only be seen when the car is moving on slow pace. The 4th LED from right side indicates the ABS-pulse. With engine switched of, and ignition in position "2", it should flash approx. 3x per second. The 3rd LED from right side indicates status of interior illumination, in case the white wire from the RoofControlSLK unit is connected to pin 18 of the MCU. The 2nd LED from right side flashes 4x quickly in case the "open" button of the keyremote is pressed. The LED completely right side flashes 1x time quickly when the "close" button of the keyremote is pressed.
