Should the appliance be sold or transferred to another owner, or should you move house and leave the appliance, always ensure that the book is left with the appliance in order that the new owner can get to know the functioning of the appliance and the relevant safety information. This information has been provided in the interest of your safety. You MUST read it carefully before installing or using the appliance. q Under no circumstances should you attempt to repair the machine yourself. Repairs carried out by inexperienced persons may cause injury or serious malfunctioning. Contact your local consumer services department. Always insist on genuine spare parts. Disposal Dispose of the dishwasher packaging material correctly. All packaging materials can be recycled. Plastic parts are marked with standard international abbreviations: >PE< for polyethylene, e.g. sheet wrapping material. >PS< for polystyrene, e.g. padding material (always CFCfree). >POM< for polyoxymethylene, e.g. plastic clips. Cardboard packaging is manufactured from recycled paper and should be deposited in the waste paper collection for recycling. As and when you cease to use your dishwasher and withdraw it from service, your should render it unserviceable before having it disposed of. Warning! Children at play could lock themselves in your dishwasher or otherwise endanger their lives. Therefore cut off the power supply cable and make the door closing device unusable to prevent children from being trapped inside. For the disposing of the appliance please take it to a recycling centre or to your dealer who will, for a small contribution to the costs, dispose it for you. Installation q Check your dishwasher for any transport damage. Never connect a damaged machine. If your dishwasher is damaged, you should contact your supplier. For safety reasons it is dangerous to alter the specifications or attempt to modify this product in any way. Any electrical and plumbing work required to install this appliance should be carried out by a qualified and competent person. Care must be taken to ensure that the appliance does not stand on the electrical supply cable. The sides of the dishwasher must never be drilled to prevent damage to hydraulic components. q q q q Child safety q q This appliance is designed to be operated by adults. Children should not be allowed to tamper with the controls or play with the product. Packaging parts may be dangerous for children, who could even be suffocated! You should therefore keep all packaging well away from children. The water in your dishwasher is not for drinking. Detergent residues may still be present in your machine. Keep children well away from your dishwasher when the door is open. Keep all detergents in a safe place out of children's reach. q q Economical and ecological dishwashing q q q Ensure that the water softener is correctly adjusted. Do not pre-wash under running water. Select the wash programme to suit the nature and degree of the soiling on the dishes. Do not use more detergent, special salt and rinse aid than is recommended in these operating instructions and by the manufacturer of the respective product. q q Your dishwasher in day-to-day use q Items that are contaminated by petrol, paint, steel or iron debris, corrosive, acidic or alkaline chemicals must not be washed in this dishwasher. Under no circumstances should you open the door whilst the appliance is in operation, especially during the washing phase, hot water may escape. However, if the door is opened, a safety device ensures that the machine stops. Only use products (detergent, salt and rinse aid) specifically designed for use in dishwashers. Long bladed knives stored in an upright position are a potential hazard. Long and/or sharp items of cutlery such as carving knives must be positioned horizontally in the upper basket. When finishing loading or unloading close the door, as an open door can be a hazard. Do not sit or stand on the open door. Isolate the appliance from the power supply and turn off the water supply after use. Ensure that the electrical and water connections comply with the installation instructions. 2. Remove all packaging from inside the appliance. 3. Set the water softener. 4. Pour 1 litre of water inside the salt container and then fill with salt. 5. Fill the rinse aid dispenser. Filling with salt Special salt can be added in one of two ways: q If you are using dishwasher detergent that already contains salt, the detergent including the salt is placed in the detergent compartment. - In this case the water softener must be set to level1 to ensure that the special salt is taken from the detergent container only. If you are using dishwasher detergent and salt separately, the special salt is to be put into the salt container. - In this case the water softener must be set between level 1 and level 5 (depending on the water hardness in your area) to ensure that the special salt is taken from the detergent container only. Setting the water softener The dishwasher is equipped with a water softener designed to remove minerals and salts from the water supply, which would have a detrimental or adverse effect on the operation of the appliance. The higher the content of these salts, the harder your water is. Water hardness is measured in equivalent scales, German degrees, French degrees and PPM (parts per Million). The softener should be adjusted according to the hardness of the water in your area. Your local Water Authority can advise you on the hardness of the water in your area. The dishwasher is factory set at level 2. If this level is not suitable for your area the softener should be adjusted. If your water is below level 1 it is already soft and therefore there is no need to use salt. Water hardness °dH (german degrees) q Only use salt specifically designed for use in dishwashers. All other types of salt not specifically designed for use in a dishwasher, especially table salt, will damage the water softener. Only fill with salt just before starting one of the washing programmes (not the "Rinse and Hold" programme). This will prevent any grains of salt or salty water, which may have been spilt, remaining on the bottom of the machine for any period of time, which may cause corrosion. °TH (french degrees) PPM (parts per million) Level Use of salt Water Adjustment softener on the adjustment machine To fill: 1. Open the door, remove the lower basket and unscrew the cap of the salt container. 2. Pour 1 litre of water inside the container (this is necessary only before filling with E salt for the first time). Using the funnel provided, pour in the salt until the container is full. 4. Replace the cap making sure that there is no trace of salt on the screw thread or on the gasket. 5. Screw on the cap tightly. SR14 UT ZO LT SA LZ SA L SE To adjust the water softener Levels 3 and 5 (water softener adjustment) If your water is level 3 or 5, proceed as follows: - slide out the lower basket and unscrew the cap of the salt container; - turn the two-position selector anticlockwise from position - to position + with the aid of a blunt knife or screwdriver. AA01 The salt container will require topping up periodically. The salt cap has a refill indicator window in the centre. A green float is clearly visible when there is salt inside the container and almost disappears when the salt has finished reminding you to add salt. SR11 Levels 3 and 5 (adjustment on the machine) If your water is level 4 or 5, open the door and drill the membrane (A) on the upper left-hand corner of the machine. With a water hardness of level 5 both adjustments must be made. A Do not worry if water over flows from the unit when filling with salt, this is quite normal. AA04 5 Rinse aid Rinse aid is automatically added during the last rinse, ensuring thorough rinsing, and spot and streak free drying. The dispenser, which is positioned inside the door, holds about 110 ml of rinse aid, which is sufficient for 16 - 40 dishwashing programmes, depending upon the dosage setting. Adjusting the dose According to the finish and drying results obtained, adjust the dose of rinse aid by means of the 6 position selector (C) (position 1 minimum dosage, position 6 maximum dosage). Increase the dose if there are drops of water or lime spots on the dishes after washing. Reduce it if there are sticky whitish streaks on the dishes. Rinse aid can be added in one of two ways: q If you are using dishwasher detergent that already contains rinse aid, the detergent including the rinse aid is placed in the detergent compartment. - In this case the rinse aid compartment must be empty. If in the rinse aid dispenser there is still rinse aid you must wait until it has finished before using detergent that contains rinse aid. If you are using dishwasher detergent and rinse aid separately, the rinse aid is to be put into the rinse aid dispenser. - In this case the rinse aid dosage must be set in position from 1 to 6 (see "Adjusting the dose"). BR02 q Filling with rinse aid 1. Open the container by turning the lid (A) anticlockwise. 2. Fill with rinse aid until the container is completely full, exactly up to the level marked "max". BR01 BR13 Top up the rinse aid when the indicator (B) becomes clear. BR03 Ensure that the lid is closed after every refill. Clean up any rinse aid spilt during filling with an absorbent cloth to avoid excess foaming during the next wash. Use only branded rinse aid for dishwashers. Never fill the rinse aid dispenser with any other substances (e.g. dishwasher cleaning agent, liquid detergent). This would damage the appliance. 6 In daily use q q q q Check if it's necessary to refill with special salt or rinse aid Load cutlery and dishes into the dishwasher. Fill with dishwasher detergent . Select a wash programme suitable for the cutlery and dishes. Start the wash programme. q q Loading cutlery and dishes Sponges, household cloths and any object that can absorb water may not be washed in the dishwasher. q When loading the dishes and cutlery, please note: - Dishes and cutlery must not impede the rotation of the spray arms . - Load hollow items such as cups, glasses, pans, etc. with the opening downwards so that water cannot collect in the container or a deep base. - Dishes and items of cutlery must not lie inside one another, or cover each other. - To avoid damage to glasses, they must not touch. - Lay small objects in the cutlery basket.
