Troubleshooting . . . 24 WARNINGS It is most important that this instruction book should be retained with the appliance for future reference. Should the appliance be sold or transferred to another owner, or should you move house and leave the appliance, always ensure that the book is supplied with the appliance in order that the new owner can be acquainted with the functioning of the appliance and the relevant warnings. These warnings are provided in the interest of safety. You must read them carefully before installing or using the appliance. This appliance is designed to be operated by adults. Children should not be allowed to tamper with the controls or play with the product. Any electrical work required to install this appliance should be carried out by a qualified electrician or competent person. This product should be serviced by an authorized Service Centre, and only genuine spare parts should be used. It is dangerous to alter the specifications or modify this product in any way. Care must be taken to ensure that the appliance does not stand on the electrical supply cable. The domestic refrigerators and freezers are designed to be used specifically for the storage of edible foodstuffs only. Frozen food must not be re-frozen once it has been thawed out. Manufacturers' storage recommendations should be strictly adhered to. Refer to relevant instructions. There are working parts in this product which heat up. Always ensure that there is adequate ventilation as a failure to do this will result in component failure and possible food loss. See installation instructions. Parts which heat up should not be exposed. Wherever possible the back of the product should be against a wall. Before any cleaning or maintenance work is carried out, be sure to switch off and unplug the appliance. If the appliance has been transported horizontally, it is possible that the oil contained in the compressor flows in the refrigerant circuit. It is advisable to wait at least two hours before connecting the appliance to allow the oil to flow back in the compressor. GB The inner lining of the appliance consists of channels through which the refrigerant passes. If these should be punctured this would damage the appliance beyond repair and cause food loss. DO NOT USE SHARP INSTRUMENTS to scrape off frost or ice. Frost may be removed by using the scraper provided. Under no circumstances should solid ice be forced off the liner. Solid ice should be allowed to thaw when defrosting the appliance. See defrost instructions. Do not place carbonated or fizzy drinks in the freezer as it creates pressure on the container, which may cause it to explode, resulting in damage to the appliance. This appliance is heavy. Care should be taken when moving it. Ice lollies can cause frost burns if consumed straight from the appliance. Under no circumstances should you attempt to repair the appliance yourself. Repairs carried out by inexperienced persons may cause injury or more serious malfunctioning. Refer to your local Service Centre, and always insist on genuine spare parts. This appliance does not contain gasses which could damage the ozone layer, in either its refrigerant circuit or insulation materials; it must nevertheless be disposed of in a proper manner, in accordance with regulations for protection of the environment. 25 INSTALLATION If this model, equipped with a magnetic door lock, replaces an old appliance with a catch, ensure that the latter cannot be used before discarding it to prevent children being trapped inside. GB Electrical connection Before plugging in, ensure that the voltage and frequency shown on the serial number plate correspond to your domestic power supply. Voltage can vary by ± 6% of the rated value. The appliance must be earthed. The power supply cable plug is provided with a contact for this purpose. If the domestic power supply socket is not earthed, connect the appliance to a separate earth in compliance with current regulations, consulting a specialist technician. The Manufacturer declines all responsibility if the above safety precautions are not observed. This appliance complies with the E.E.C. directive no. 87/308 of 2/6/87 concerning the suppression of radio interference. This appliance complies with the following E.E.C. Directives: - 73/23 EEC of 19.2.73 (Low Voltage Directive) and subsequent modifications; - 89/336 EEC of 3.5.89 (Electromagnetic Compatibility Directive) and subsequent modifications. Positioning The appliance should be installed well away from sources of heat such as radiators, boilers, direct sunlight etc. Best performance is obtained with ambient temperature between +18°C and +43°C (class T); +18°C and +38°C (class ST); +16°C and +32°C (class N); +10°C and +32°C (class SN). The class of your appliance is shown on its rating plate. Ensure that air can circulate freely around the back, top and bottom of the cabinet. If the appliance is positioned below an overhanging kitchen unit, the minimum distance between the top of the cabinet and the wall unit must be at least 100 mm (Fig. - A). The ideal solution, however, is the one shown in Fig. - B (without an overhanging unit). The appliance can be installed with its sides touching adjacent kitchen units provided that air can circulate freely around the back and top. Accurate levelling is ensured by one or more adjustable feet at the base of the refrigerator. Cleaning Before using, clean all inside parts with warm water and neutral detergent to remove the typical new smell. Dry thoroughly. Do not use abrasive powders as these can damage the finish. 100 mm A 10 mm B 10 mm NP008 26 Door reversibility The appliance must be unplugged before starting work. To reverse the opening direction of the door, proceed as follows: Remove the bottom hinge (6). Remove the door (5). Remove the rear screws (A) which secure the worktop (1) and remove it. Unscrew the top hinge (2) and pin (3) and fit them on the opposite side. Refit the worktop. Unscrew foot (7) and replace it on the opposite side. Refit the door and bottom hinge (using the holes provided). Remove the handle (4) and refit it on the opposite side (the finishing holes are already provided). 7 D054 A 1 2 3 4 5 6 27 USE Operation - temperature regulation Turn the thermostat dial clockwise to the required position (beyond the «O» position); the intermediate setting is generally the most suitable. The temperature is automatically regulated; it can be increased by turning the dial towards the lower numbers and vice versa. When selecting the correct position, remember that the internal temperature depends on the following factors: ambient temperature; how often the door is opened; the amount of food stored; where the appliance is installed. To switch off, turn the dial until it coincides with the «O» symbol. D040 GB Movable wire shelves The walls of the refrigerator are equipped with a series of runners so that the shelves can be positioned as desired. Ice cube production The refrigerator is equipped with one or more ice cube trays, which should be filled with drinking water and placed in the special compartment. Do not use metal implements to detach the trays. Storing chilled foods The refrigerator compartment is suitable for chilling food and drinks. For best results, it is important to follow the rules below: do not put hot food or evaporating liquids in the refrigerator; cover or wrap all foods (especially spicy or strong-smelling foods); do not cover the shelves with paper, card or protective plastic sheeting which would prevent air from circulating through the grilles. We also recommend the following: cooked foods, cold dishes, jelly, etc.: should be well covered and may be placed on any shelf in the refrigerator; fruit and vegetables: should be washed and then placed in the salad box at the bottom of the refrigerator; butter and cheese: should be placed in suitable containers or wrapped in aluminium foil or plastic film to avoid drying out; milk in bottles: should be well capped and placed in the door compartment; raw meat (beef, pork, lamb, poultry): should be wrapped in plastic bags and placed in the special meat box or on the top shelf immediately below the evaporator. Bananas, potatoes, onions and garlic should not be placed in the refrigerator unless pre-packed. Defrosting During normal operation, the evaporator in the refrigerator compartment will gradually become covered with frost. This frost is a thermal insulator which inhibits cooling and must therefore be removed, otherwise there will be a significant reduction in cooling efficiency and an increase in electricity consumption. To defrost, proceed as follows: Turn the thermostat knob to the «O» setting. When defrosting is completed, dry the interior thoroughly and turn the thermostat knob to the required setting. The water which has collected in the basin placed under the evaporator must be removed. 28 MAINTENANCE Unplug the appliance before carrying out any maintenance operation. GB Periods of non-use If you are not using the appliance for any length of time, the following precautions should be taken: unplug the appliance; take all food out; defrost and clean the inside and all the accessories; leave the door ajar so that air can circulate inside in order to prevent unpleasant smells forming. Periodic cleaning Clean the inside with warm water and bicarbonate of soda. Clean the outside with a silicone wax spray. Clean the condenser and compressor with a brush or vacuum cleaner. This will improve performance and consequently save on electricity. The light bulb The opening on the diffuser gives access to the light bulb. If the light does not come on when the door is opened, check that the bulb is screwed in properly; replace the bulb if the fault persists. The rating is shown on the light bulb cover. TROUBLESHOOTING If a fault occurs, check: that the plug is correctly inserted in the socket; that the socket is powered; that the thermostat dial is correctly positioned. Also check the following: GB If the appliance is very noisy, check that the sides are not vibrating against adjacent kitchen units and that the refrigeration unit pipes are not vibrating. If the fault persists after carrying out the above checks, call your nearest Servicing Centre. For quick service it is important when telephoning to give the number of the model and the serial number, both of which can be found on the serial number plate inside at the bottom left of the appliance. 29 ...
