Customer Service . 2 Printed on recycled paper WARNINGS It is most important that this instruction book should be retained with the appliance for future reference. Should the appliance be sold or transferred to another owner, or should you move house and leave the appliance, always ensure that the book is supplied with the appliance in order that the new owner can be acquainted with the functioning of the appliance and the relevant warnings. These warnings are provided in the interest of safety. You must read them carefully before installing or using the appliance. This appliance is designed to be operated by adults. Children should not be allowed to tamper with the controls or play with the product. Any electrical work required to install this appliance should be carried out by a qualified electrician or competent person. This product should be serviced by an authorized Service Centre, and only genuine spare parts should be used. It is dangerous to alter the specifications or modify this product in any way. Care must be taken to ensure that the appliance does not stand on the electrical supply cable. The domestic refrigerators and freezers are designed to be used specifically for the storage of edible foodstuffs only. Frozen food must not be re-frozen once it has been thawed out. Manufacturers' storage recommendations should be strictly adhered to. Refer to relevant instructions. There are working parts in this product which heat up. Always ensure that there is adequate ventilation as a failure to do this will result in component failure and possible food loss. See installation instructions. Parts which heat up should not be exposed. Wherever possible the back of the product should be against a wall. Before any cleaning or maintenance work is carried out, be sure to switch off and unplug the appliance. If the appliance has been transported horizontally, it is possible that the oil contained in the compressor flows in the refrigerant circuit. It is advisable to wait at least two hours before connecting the appliance to allow the oil to flow back in the compressor. The inner lining of the appliance consists of channels through which the refrigerant passes. If these should be punctured this would damage the appliance beyond repair and cause food loss. DO NOT USE SHARP INSTRUMENTS to scrape off frost or ice. Frost may be removed by using the scraper provided. Under no circumstances should solid ice be forced off the liner. Solid ice should be allowed to thaw when defrosting the appliance. See defrost instructions. Do not place carbonated or fizzy drinks in the freezer as it creates pressure on the container, which may cause it to explode, resulting in damage to the appliance. This appliance is heavy. Care should be taken when moving it. Ice lollies can cause frost burns if consumed straight from the appliance. Under no circumstances should you attempt to repair the appliance yourself. Repairs carried out by inexperienced persons may cause injury or more serious malfunctioning. Refer to your local Service Centre, and always insist on genuine spare parts. This appliance does not contain gasses which could damage the ozone layer, in either its refrigerant circuit or insulation materials; it must nevertheless be disposed of in a proper manner, in accordance with regulations for protection of the environment. 10/95 2222 137-83/1 3 INSTALLATION Caution If this appliance featuring magnetic door seals is to replace an older appliance having a spring lock (latch) on the door or lid, be sure to make that spring lock unusable before you discard the old appliance. This will prevent it from becoming a death-trap for a child. A Fig. 2 Location Place the appliance away from all heat sources, such as: radiators, heating stoves, direct sunlight, etc. Best performance is obtained with ambient temperature between +18°C and +43°C (class T); +18°C and +38°C (class ST); +16°C and +32°C (class N); +10°C and +32°C (class SN). The class of your appliance is shown on its rating plate. Make sure that there is nothing at the back, at the top and at the bottom of the appliance to obstruct air circulation. For a more efficient operation of the appliance, the minimum distance between the top of the appliance and other overhanging kitchen furniture, if any, should be at least 100 mm (see Fig. - A). However, the best solution would be that shown in B with no overhanging furniture. Two adjustable feet make it possible to accurately level the appliance. 100 mm min. 45° D039 Electrical connection Before you plug the appliance into an A.C. mains supply, make sure that the voltage and frequency shown on the rating plate correspond to your home supply. A 6% fluctuation above or below the rated voltage is admissible. To adapt the appliance to other voltages, use an autotransformer having a minimum output of 500 VA. Important It is essential that the appliance be connected to an efficient earth tap. For this purpose the supply cable plug incorporates a special earth contact. If the sockets of your domestic wiring system are not grounded, have the appliance connected to a separate ground wire by a qualified electrician in accordance with the existing safety regulations. The manufacturer declines to accept any liability should this safety rule not be observed. This appliance complies with E.E.C. directive No. 87/ 308 of 2.6.87 relative to radio interference suppression. This appliance complies with the following E.E.C. Directives: - 73/23 EEC of 19.2.73 (Low Voltage Directive) and subsequent modifications; - 89/336 EEC of 3.5.89 (Electromagnetic Compatibility Directive) and subsequent modifications. Fig. 1 A B D042 Rear spacers In the plastic envelope containing the Operating Instructions are also included two wall spacers to be fitted into the special openings provided on the back of the appliance. Push-fit the spacers into the openings, making sure that arrow (A) is positioned as per Fig. and then turn the spacers through 45° until they lock in (arrow (A) in a vertical position). Cleaning the interior Before using the appliance for the first time, wash the interior and all internal accessories with lukewarm water and some neutral soap so as to remove the typical smell of a brand-new product, then dry thoroughly. Do not use detergents which will leave an odour or abrasive powders on the interior, as these will damage the finish. 4 Door reversibility Unplug the refrigerator from the wall socket before performing the following operations: Remove socle (2) by unscrewing its front screws. Slide it downwards to release it from the central runners. Remove bottom hinge (1). Unscrew pin (C) from hole (A) and screw it into hole (B). Remove door stop hinge (D) and refit it on the opposite side. Slide out the lower door from middle hinge. Remove middle hinge (4) and upper hinge (3) and refit them on the opposite side. Refit lower door and bottom hinge (1) on the opposite side. Turn the base upside-down and refit it. D158 Fig. 3 3 4 5 6 D C A 1 B 2 Remove handles (5-6) and refit them on the opposite side. Attention After completion of the door reversibility operation, verify that the door gasket is adherent to the cabinet. If the ambient temperature is cold (i.e. in Winter), the gasket may not fit perfectly to the cabinet. In that case, wait for the natural fitting of the gasket or accelerate this process by heating up the part involved with a normal hairdrier. 5 OPERATION Starting-up and Temperature Regulation Insert the plug into the wall socket. Open the refrigerator door and turn the thermostat knob, to be found on the upper right side of the inner liner, clockwise, beyond the «O» position, to start the appliance. Temperature adjustment is obtained by turning the thermostat knob to the required setting. A medium setting is generally the most suitable. However, the thermostat knob setting should be adjusted depending on the temperature required inside the appliance. This, in turn, depends on a number of factors such as the ambient temperature, the number of times the door is opened, the quantity of food stored and the location of the appliance. Turn the knob clockwise, to higher numbers, to obtain a lower temperature, or anticlockwise if a higher temperature is required. Important Do not put carbonated liquids (fizzy drinks, etc.) in the freezing compartment as they may burst. Water ices, if consumed immediately after removal from the freezing compartment, can possibly cause the skin to be freeze burnt. Remember that, once thawed, frozen food deteriorates rapidly. On the rear side of the door you will find a list of foods followed by a number. These numbers indicate the maximum period of time for which the food in question may be conserved (in months). Storage of frozen food To obtain the best performance from this appliance, we strongly recommend that you make sure that the commercially frozen foodstuffs were adequately stored by the retailer and, furthermore, be sure that these frozen foodstuffs are transferred from the foodstore to the freezer in the shortest possible time (a temperature increase of the frozen food could shorten its storage period). It is also advisable not to exceed the storage period indicated by the producer of the food. Finally, do not open the door frequently or leave it open longer than absolutely necessary. If there is a power failure when food is in the freezer, do not open the door of the freezing compartment. The frozen food will not be affected if the power cut is of short duration (a temperature increase of the frozen food could shorten its safe storage period), otherwise it is recommended that the food should be used within a very short time. Freezing fresh food The 4-star compartment ( ) is suitable for long term storage of commercially frozen food (i.e. for 3 months, unless otherwise stated by the manufacturer), and for freezing fresh food. Under normal circumstances, to freeze fresh foods it is not necessary to change the setting of the thermostat knob with respect to the normal running position. However, for a quicker freezing operation, turn the thermostat knob to the coldest setting, but remember that, in this condition, the refrigerating compartment temperature might drop below 0°C. If this occurs reset thermostat knob to a warmer setting. To help you make the most of the freezing process, here are some important hints: Place the food to be frozen on the shelf. The maximum quantity of food which can be frozen in 24 hours is shown on the rating plate. Only freeze top quality, fresh and thoroughly cleaned foodstuffs. Prepare the fresh food in small portions to enable it to be rapidly and completely frozen and to make it possible subsequently to t ...
